With reports suggesting that John Cena will be performing at WrestleMania 39, attention now turns to who he will be performing with.
Cena remains one of the biggest names in wrestling despite his part-time status so a match with the star will undoubtedly be featured prominently. A point that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Logan Paul. Fresh off the back of his clash with Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel in November, Paul revealed that he had already asked Triple H if he could face Cena at the ‘Showcase of the Immortals.’ This was later followed by reports that the match was pencilled in for the event.
John Cena Potentially Setting The Scene For WrestleMania
However, for a number of months Cena has also been linked with a clash with Austin Theory. It has been noted that WWE have even planned for a match between the pair previously.
Austin Theory has been compared to John Cena ever since making his proper breakthrough on the main roster in late 2021. It has often been said that WWE see Theory as the “next Cena” while the veteran has previously been full of praise for the young star.
It has now been reported by Fightful Select that Cena filmed a segment with Theory when he was at the December 30th episode of SmackDown. Although it’s unclear what the segment is for, something was filmed. Interestingly, Theory was pulled from a live event appearance where he’d been due to face Seth Rollins, so that he could take part in the segment.
Theory was replaced at the live event by Finn Balor.
The news comes after Theory referenced John Cena on the January 9th episode of Monday Night Raw. The United States Champion entered the ring and began his promo by declaring that the “Champ is here!” A line often used by Cena in the past.
