A touching video has emerged of John Cena meeting a young fan, whose mother had recently been deemed cancer free.
John Cena is usually bringing people to tears with his inspiring messages but this time, the tables were turned on him. Cena was taken aback by a young fan surprising him while the multi-time World Champion was watching a video of the fan – named Tyler – thanking John for helping his family.
As Tyler explained in his pre-taped message to John Cena, his mother had been suffering from breast cancer. During her six-hour surgery, she wore a wristband gifted to her by her son; the wristband in question was an officially-used John Cena band, handed to Tyler during a taping of SmackDown.
The heartfelt footage was posted to Reddit by u/Capedbaldy474:
John Cena has been praised for the relationship he’s formed with his adoring fans, holding the Make-A-Wish record for most wishes granted. At present, he’s granted well over 650 wishes to those with life-threatening conditions.
This is just the beginning of the former WWE Champion’s philanthropist interests, having previously worn a ‘Rise Above Hate’ t-shirt to promote WWE’s anti-bullying campaign, as well as a ‘Rise Above Cancer’ t-shirt throughout WWE’s relationship with Susan G. Komen For The Cure. In 2020, Cena donated $1 million to aid Black Lives Matter.
John Cena recently made his return to WWE programming to celebrate his twentieth anniversary with the company. He had previously been touted for a SummerSlam clash vs. then-United States Champion Theory, though this was later reported to not be going ahead.
