John Cena Heaps Praise On Long-Time WWE Rival: “He Has Such A Great Mind For The Business”

John Cena Heaps Praise On Long-Time WWE Rival:

John Cena is extremely complimentary of a WWE Hall of Famer.

In Cena’s latest look back at his iconic matches on TikTok, the 16-time World Champion focused on his TLC match against Edge at Unforgiven 2006. Much like his encounter with Rob Van Dam at One Night Stand that same year, Cena was performing in front of a crowd that wanted him to lose and was competing in his opponent’s signature stipulation match.

When discussing how the match was put together, Cena credited The Rated R Superstar with coming up with a lot of the memorable spots in the match and how safe he felt executing the high-impact moves:

This is Unforgiven in Toronto, Canada vs. Edge. I have a wonderful legacy with Edge, we did a lot of stuff together. Here we are destroying the entire ring and its surroundings. A lot of this is the brainchild of Adam Copeland. He has such a great mind for the business, including me giving an Attitude Adjustment to a temperamental ladder and the fist drop off the ladder instead of jumping for the championship. He came up with a lot of this stuff because I would never be that reckless. But I always felt safe with Edge in there as I take a trip through the table, and that’s a horrible landing for me!

Cena would go on to win the TLC match and his 3rd WWE Championship. Looking back at the match, Cena admitted that despite being in Toronto there were some Cena fans in attendance:

We destroyed a whole lot of stuff but the crowd was raucous. They really loved their hometown hero! Edge in Toronto blue. An Attitude Adjustment off the top of a ladder through two tables was enough to get it done for the WWE Championship. I had a few fans in the crowd that night, one was my dad, who was I able to give a hug after I made it through in one piece.

John Cena Celebrates Previous Year

With the December 29th episode of SmackDown being a best-of compilation, multiple Superstars sent in messages to look back on the previous year and thanked the fans. Cena was a big part of the company in 2023, appearing at multiple SmackDown tapings and Premium Live Events, largely due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that took place over the autumn. Along with thanking the fans for a great year, John Cena also stated that he doesn’t know how much longer he will be competing in WWE.

In his latest look back, John Cena recalled a match with a one-of-a-kind rival.
