John Cena believes that an onscreen pairing with one of his most notable WWE rivals could make for an interesting movie.
One of many pro wrestlers to find success in Hollywood, the 16-time World Champion has had featured roles in movies such as The Suicide Squad, Fast & Furious 9 and most recently Jackpot. Starring in action and comedy roles, Cena has shared the screen with some of the biggest names in the film industry. However, despite his history inside the squared circle, Cena has yet to star in a feature film alongside a fellow wrestler.
While the likes of The Rock, Dave Bautista and Becky Lynch have all broken through to the wider world of entertainment, Cena has another name in mind for his dream wrestler-actor pairing. During an interview with Chris McPherson of Collider, Cena stated that he would love to pair up with CM Punk in action comedy, noting that their clash of styles could make for a great movie:
“I think the viewing public probably would get a kick out of… Usually, in the action-comedy space, it’s kind of oil and water, or two comedy styles that combat each other, and I don’t want to say ‘combat,’ but I think people would dig me and CM Punk together.”
No stranger to the acting world, Punk has previously starred in the horror movie Girl on the Third Floor and the pro wrestling drama series Heels.
Cena and Punk faced off many times over the course of their in-ring careers, most famously at Money in the Bank 2011, which saw Punk defeat Cena in his hometown of Chicago.
New John Cena TV Series Announced
Looking to focus on TV and film projects moving forward, Cena is currently taking part in his WWE farewell tour that will culminate at the end of the year. Following his first appearance of 2025 at the Raw on Netflix premiere, a new John Cena series was announced.
