John Cena Embraces Miro At The Suicide Squad Premiere

John Cena Peacemaker

John Cena has been reunited with an old foe and current star of All Elite Wrestling at the premiere of Cena’s new Marvel movie The Suicide Squad.

Cena portrays Peacemaker in the latest installment of the Marvel franchise and the sixteen-time champion of the world ensured everyone could definitely see him as he donned his character’s costume at the movie’s premiere.

While mingling on the red carpet John Cena bumped into a former rival, AEW’s Miro. Miro and Cena have a storied rivalry that dates back to 2015. The two men exchanged wins with Cena defeating Miro – then wrestling in WWE as Rusev – for the WWE United States Championship at WrestleMania 31. That match is probably best remembered for Miro’s entering Levi’s Stadium in an army tank. Their rivalry continued over the summer of 2015 with Cena getting the best of The Bulgarian Brute more often than not.

Miro’s time in WWE came to an end in April 2020 when the company began cutting its talent roster as part of budget cuts that have continued well into 2021. In September 2020 Miro’s next career move was made clear when he debuted in All Elite Wrestling. His early partnership with Kip Sabian was criticised in some quarters for not showcasing Miro’s aggression and physicality but since striking out on his own in the company, those are two attributes that Miro has not been short of.

On May 12th, 2021 on an edition of AEW Dynamite, Miro won his first title in AEW when he decimated Darby Allin for the TNT Championship. Since then ‘God’s favourite champion’ has unveiled a new white, gold, and green title belt and calls himself ‘The Redeemer.’

John Cena made his hotly anticipated comeback to WWE at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view in July. From his return, Cena has made clear his desire to face Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship and on SmackDown Cena signed a contract to meet The Tribal Chief at WrestleMania.

As well as appearing in The Suicide Squad, John Cena was the star of F9, the ninth installment of The Fast And The Furious franchise this year. Cena has also recently wrapped filming on a Peacemaker TV series that will be coming to HBO.
