John Cena is a believer in Joe Hendry and recently gave the TNA World Champion some words of wisdom when they met backstage.
After previously appearing on NXT, Hendry made his main roster debut in the 2025 Royal Rumble, which also saw Cena compete in his first match as part of the year-long retirement tour. With Cena being one of the biggest stars in wrestling in the 21st century, Hendry asked the 17-time World Champion if he had any advice to help him reach the next level in the industry.
While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Cena spoke highly of Hendry and recalled what he told the Scottish star that night:
“Joe is awesome. I got the chance to meet Joe at the Rumble, face-to-face. He had a small moment in Rumble and he’s like, ‘Hey, you’re good at this, how do I make this more?’ I gave him some advice, ‘You don’t. You go out there, you be yourself, and you make your moment, your moment. When you try to make your moment more than is given, that’s selfish. You’re a small piece of a great show.’
I thought he did excellent at the Rumble. [At WrestleMania], I thought he was brilliant. If I don’t know that kid, I got to know him. He got to do his stuff, he got to be in a WrestleMania match with Randy Orton, and he got a fantastic moment in giving Randy his 20th WrestleMania (match). We got an introduction on a large level to Joe Hendry. I think he’s going to be a major player. He loves it and he gets it right. He has a great mind.”
Joe Hendry Teases Future Showdown With John Cena
In multiple interviews since his arrival on NXT, Hendry has made it clear that the ultimate goal is to have a match with John Cena before the Hollywood star retires for good at the end of the year. While many believed the goal was highly unlikely at one point in time, fans probably thought the same about the TNA World Champion having a match with Randy Orton at WrestleMania. In a recent interview, Joe Hendry teased that a confrontation with John Cena could be on the cards, and that he wouldn’t appear alone.
H/t to Fightful.
