He might have left it under the last minute but John Cena has kept up his record wrestling at least once every year since making his WWE debut in 2002.
On the most recent episode of SmackDown, Cena teamed with Kevin Owens to overcome Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn in what was a rare defat for the Tribal Chief. The 16-time World Champion entered to a huge ovation from the crowd and remained the focus of the crowd all of the way through the match. The bout ended with Cena giving Reigns an Attitude Adjustment before Owens hit a Stunner on Zayn scoring the pin.
John Cena Cuts Heartfelt Promo Following SmackDown
It was reported by PWInsider that after the show went off the air Cena began to address the fans but he and Owens were attacked by Zayn and The Usos. However, the Brawling Brutes and Drew McIntyre ran into make the save leaving the babyfaces standing tall with The Bloodline in retreat.
Once the chaos died down Cena thanked fans for their support, before tipping his hat to everyone he had shared the ring with.
“This year was the first year that [wrestling a WWE match] wasn’t supposed to happen,” Cena admitted. “So, I found out that the last event of the year was right here in my backyard in Tampa Bay. I want to thank you as a community for welcoming me with open arms, I want to thank those I share the ring with – for helping me make magic every night. But most importantly, I want to thank all of you – and for all the hard work and sacrifice [you put in] to come and see us week in and week out! None of this exists with you!”
Cena concluded, “Thank you for a wonderful 20-year run, and for a wonderful 2022. Everybody be safe tomorrow night, and let’s have one hell of a 2023! Thank you, Tampa Bay.”
It has also been reported that John Cena is heading for a huge first-time-ever bout at WrestleMania 39.
