John Cena Explains Abnormally High Number Of Pockets In His Ring Gear

John Cena

Long before taking on the mantle of Peacemaker, John Cena reigned atop the WWE as the master of hustle, loyalty, and respect. He spent over a decade as the face of the company, earning himself 16 World Championship wins, all while sporting an unconventional look in the ring.

After a short stint wearing trunks in his early WWE days, John Cena became iconic for wearing a t-shirt and shorts to the ring. Though he’s most known for wearing jean shorts (or jorts) as wrestling gear, in his later years he began opting for cargo shorts, which feature large pockets on the side. During a 2017 Twitter Q&A hosted on GQ’s YouTube channel, one fan asked about the pockets, suspicious of what Cena may need to carry that necessitates so much storage capacity.

“Why do John Cena’s shorts have loads of pockets? What’s he carrying? Surely he doesn’t need cargos”

Cena’s first response was simple, explaining the design behind the cargo short itself.

“That is the design of the cargo short. It is meant to be a durable and utilitarian half pant-like garment.”

When it came to the question of what he might be carrying, Cena jokingly called out the fan for being rude.

“‘What’s he carrying?’ That’s my business, damn it. That’s where I draw the line. That’s like asking me what I’m wearing under those clothes.”

John Cena Rumored To Be Returning To WWE At WrestleMania 39

2022 marks the first year that John Cena hasn’t competed inside a WWE ring. Between his film career and the success of HBO Max’s Peacemaker leading to a second season, the star has had plenty to keep him busy, but a new report suggests he may be eyeing a return to the squared circle at next year’s WrestleMania 39.

According to WrestleVotes speaking to GiveMeSport’s Louis Dangoor, Cena should be looking to compete at WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood if he wants to follow in the megastar footsteps of Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson.

“WrestleMania is still WrestleMania and it’s in Los Angeles. If Cena is legitimately trying to be ‘the next Rock’ you should perform at WrestleMania in Hollywood, and I think he’ll be there and I think it’ll be wrestling. I’ll leave it at that.”

Elaborating, WrestleVotes explained that despite Vince McMahon having stepped away from his WWE duties, John Cena still maintains a close bond with the new company regime:

“I know he touches base every so often, and although Vince is out of the picture, Cena still has a love for this place. John Cena and Triple H have a respect for each other.”

John Cena’s last televised outing was at the 2021 SummerSlam premium live event, failing to capture the WWE Universal Championship from Roman Reigns. He’s wrestled just once since, doing so in a dark match following the September 10, 2021 Friday Night SmackDown broadcast as he and The Mysterios felled Reigns and The Usos of The Bloodline.
