Following years of incredible success with WWE, John Cena followed the giant footsteps of the likes of Dwayne Johnson and Hulk Hogan in heading to Hollywood. This has seen the star appear in the likes of F9, Bumblebee and The Suicide Squad.
Cena also played the title role in the Peacemaker television series before taking the character into The Suicide Squad. While filming movies is far more taxing than many people believe, sometimes the stars themselves throw in some extra challenges, often by accident.
John Cena’s Fight With 36 Empanadas
During the press tour for The Suicide Squad, John Cena appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live alongside Margot Robbie and Director James Gunn. During the chat Gunn was asked for the dumbest thing that he made Cena do. Before Gunn could answer, the 16-time World Champion jumped in:
“It was this elaborate thing where I had to take an empanada out of a package and eat it. And it was really me doing it; it wasn’t a stunt person.”
While eating an empanada might not sound too taxing, as it turned out, Cena had to eat 36 of them as he had to keep re-shooting the scene.
The Suicide Squad serves as a sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad. The movie was released to mostly positive reviews and made a total of $168.7 at the box office.
As John Cena’s movie career has taken off his WWE appearance have to dwindle. The star hasn’t wrestled since taking part in a dark match following the September 10th, 2021 episode of Friday Night SmackDown at Madison Square Garden. His last televised match came at SummerSlam 2021 where he was defeated by Roman Reigns.
The star returned to Monday Night Raw on June 27th 2022 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his WWE debut. While Cena has refused to rule out a return to the ring, it is unknown when or where he will wrestle again.
