Joey Janela has announced that he will face Ricky Morton at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 4. Scheduled to take place on October 10, the bout was announced in a video posted to Janela’s Twitter on Monday night. This will be the fourth installment of Janela’s annual Spring Break event and will form part of GCW’s ‘The Collective’. Moved from the originally scheduled slot at WrestleMania weekend due to the ongoing pandemic, this is an event a lot of fans have been waiting for.
This will not be Morton’s first outing at one of Janela’s events, however it will be his first singles bout. Morton and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Robert Gibson made an appearance at Spring Break 3, facing off with LAX. With this only being Morton’s second singles match in over a year, eyebrows will be raised.

Morton comes into the match with a distinct experience advantage. The 42 year veteran has been working on the independent circuit in recent years. Starting out in the territories, he found himself appearing for WCW and WWE in his later career. Holding dozens of championships throughout his career, Morton has also been inducted into three Hall of Fames. Following the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express’ induction to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017, Morton also finds himself in the NWA and Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fames alongside Gibson.
The match is likely to turn heads as Morton’s former manager and long-term rival Jim Cornette has a storied past with Joey Janela. Most recently issuing a cease and desist over Janela’s latest piece of merchandise. The involvement of Cornette could make the build up to the match very interesting.
