Jinder Mahal Discusses Rise In Popularity Following Tony Khan Rant: “I Was Trending All Day”

Jinder Mahal Discusses Rise In Popularity Following Tony Khan Rant:

WWE Superstar Jinder Mahal has given a humourous take on his sudden surge in popularity on social media.

On the January 8th broadcast of WWE Raw, Mahal confronted World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. Still feeling disrespected after what happened between himself and The Rock, Mahal challenged Rollins to a title match on January 15th.

Back in 2017, Mahal shocked the world when he defeated Randy Orton to become the WWE Champion. Speaking on The Bump, Mahal stated that he has always needed to prove himself to the fans and that is what every champion should base themselves on:

“It was nothing new to me. The WWE Universe has always reacted to me in such fashion. There’s a famous shot when I became WWE Champion, the pan into the crowd and everybody’s jaw is hitting the floor. I don’t understand why the WWE Universe is surprised when the Modern Day Maharaja returns or becomes champion. Let’s face it, I am the prototype of what every superstar should be, the prototype of what every champion should be. I look the part, I speak the part, I speak with intelligence, I speak the truth.

While many thought nothing more to the upcoming World Title match, AEW President Tony Khan decided to give his thoughts to the world. Blasting WWE’s choice to put The Modern Day Maharaja in a marquee match, Tony Khan labelled the move a “double standard” as fans had also called out his own booking of Hook. The rising star recently challenged Samoa Joe to a World Championship match, which Khan believes is justified as the FTW Champion has a better win/loss record.

Many fans would leap to the defence of Mahal online, with some claiming that Khan’s rant may have ironically turned the former World Champion babyface as a result. Referencing the groundswell of support, Mahal joked that he was a hot topic of conversation over the next 24 hours:

I bring it in the ring, I have been in there with possibly the greatest competitors of all time in our business, the likes of Randy Orton, John Cena, Shinsuke Nakamura, AJ Styles, so again, I’m insulted by the reactions but it was a great start to the new year until I was interrupted by The Rock. But nonetheless, this past week, was in the ring with Seth Rollins, told him exactly how I feel, and now I’m number one contender to the world heavyweight champion. I was trending on Twitter all day yesterday [laughs], and somehow, again, the Modern Day Maharaja is the talk of the town,”

Currently featured much more prominently than he has been in previous months, Jinder Mahal has admitted there have been some WWE frustrations.

Jinder Mahal Issues Hilarious Response

Not wanting to shy away from the drama, The Modern Day Maharaja would also take to social media to give his thoughts on what was happening. Alluding to the Tony Khan rant, Jinder Mahal asked a question which many fans found to be amusing.

H/t to Fightful.
