Jinder Mahal feels that he is severely underappreciated by the WWE fans.
Looking to repeat the events of 2017, Mahal is set to challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw. While The Modern Day Maharaja will be hoping to reach the top of the mountain once again, he has admitted that he feels forgotten about since dropping the title.
Speaking on The Bump, Mahal stated that he is looking forward to the marquee match on Raw but with other names seen as bigger stars than he is, there is some frustration:
“I feel great, but at the same time I feel a little offended. More or less, I have been overlooked. What’s the word I’m looking for, the word I’m looking for — yeah, I feel overlooked. I’m really frustrated at the fact, you know, I was doing my part of helping the next generation, focusing on Indus Sher. I see all of these superstars like CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and Cody Rhodes, really being the highlight of ‘Raw,’ and it seems to be that the people have forgotten the ‘Modern Day Maharaja.’ The man who was once the WWE Champion, and I think it’s time to step back into that spotlight to become champion once again.”
With The Visionary closing in on one year as World Heavyweight Champion, Mahal has not been previously discussed as a potential challenger for Rollins. Continuing the interview, Mahal continued to express his frustrations, noting that he has not been featured on any promotional material:
“Again, I feel overlooked. Overlooked by the WWE Universe and by the WWE itself. For example, when was the last time that you saw the Modern Day Maharaja’s face on any promotional material? PLE posters? We got these trucks that tour the United States, never is the face of the ‘Modern Day Maharaja’ been presented anyway.”
Jinder Mahal Discusses Unlikely Groundswell Of Support
Despite being the heel in the match, there is a very strong possibility that the crowd in Little Rock, Arkansas may give Mahal one of the most positive receptions he has ever received. If so, this is likely due to the criticism of the match by Tony Khan, who called the booking a “double standard” compared to his choice of challengers to AEW World Champion Samoa Joe. During the same interview, Jinder Mahal jokingly referenced the online argument between Tony Khan and the wrestling world by stating that he was trending all day as a result.
