Jimmy Rave has announced he has been forced into retirement, after suffering an infection in his left arm which lead to an amputation of the limb.

Rave is best known for his stints in Ring Of Honor and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, during which time he faced the likes AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan and CM Punk. He also made a brief appearance as an extra for WWE in 2016, posing as a security guard for Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon.

This week Rave addressed fans via his Twitter account to announce his retirement in an emotional post. In the statement, Rave expressed gratitude for his time in professional wrestling, stating he had got to “live out my dream”:

“Today, that dream has ended for me and I have a new reality. This past Thursday my world came crashing down when Doctors found an infection in my left arm. I tried toughing it out but by the time I saw a doctor it was too late and they had to amputate my left arm above the elbow. Thus effectively ending my in ring career.”

No details have been released regarding the cause or nature of the infection, however a GoFundMe page has been organised in an attempt to help with Rave’s medical costs. The page urges fans to donate to the cause in any way they can:

“For 20 years, Jimmy Rave has given his blood, sweat, and tears to the Professional Wrestling Business. With lucrative stints in TNA Wrestling, Ring of Honor, Dragon Gate, and CZW, Jimmy Rave is someone who’s name is synonymous with the sport we all love!

Jimmy has given so much of himself to this business and now, it is our turn to help him!

Due to an unfortunate health issue, Jimmy had to undergo an amputation of his arm to save his life! With mounting medical expenses and also having to face the reality of never wrestling again, our friend needs our help!

This fundraiser is to assist Jimmy with his medical expenses and most importantly to help him acquire a prosthetic arm that will help him lead as normal a life as possible. This chain of events has been heartbreaking but as his support system, we can come together and give any amount that we can to help Jimmy overcome this hurdle!

Any amount you can give would so greatly appreciated. Jimmy needs all the love and support he can get at this time and we thank you SO much for helping to alleviate this burden.”

Many professional wrestlers have shared the page on social media, including WWE’s Drew Gulak.

Rave went on to thank fans who supported him during his career, encouraging people to DM him, and to take their health seriously:

“I appreciate everyone who has supported me or anyone who has pegged me with a roll of toilet paper. To my brothers & sisters I have shared the ring with or a locker room; thank you for always pushing me to be better. Thank you to all of my mentors and my students who allow me to still feel needed. This was the hardest thing I ever had to type. If you have questions or comments please feel free to DM me. Please take your health much more seriously than I did. I am sorry for anyone I have let down. Support pro wrestling!”

Inside The Ropes send their deepest condolences to Jimmy Rave.
