On December 6th, 2004, WWE Hall of Famers Trish Stratus and Lita made history as the first women to main event Monday Night Raw.
The two fought it out in the historic match for the Women’s Championship in front of a passionate crowd. The bout is widely regarded as a watershed moment for women’s wrestling in WWE.
The seven-minute+ match saw the two rivals put on a memorable show in Charlotte, North Carolina and resulted in Lita capturing the women’s title fo the second time.
However, according to the legendary Jim Ross, there was a tonne of backlash from male wrestlers when they found out who was headlining Raw that ground-breaking night.
Taking to social media after the match was the subject of the latest WWE Rivals on A&E, Good Ol’ JR revealed just how much Stratus and Lita deserved the spot.
“You wouldn’t believe the push back from male wrestlers that I received when they found out that @trishstratuscom and @AmyDumas were going to close Raw. They deserved the opportunity and I’m happy that we did it.”
Stratus and Lita revolutionised women’s wrestling during their time in WWE. They inspired generations of wrestlers such as Alexa Bliss, Mercedes Mone, Carmella, and Mandy Rose.
Lita and Trish Stratus Will Wrestle At WrestleMania 39
A six-woman-mega-match going down at WrestleMania between Women’s Tag Team Champions Becky Lynch and Lita alongside fellow legend Trish Stratus taking on the trio of Bayley, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY known as Damage CTRL.
The clash came about when Stratus assisted the new champions to capture the titles from Kai and SKY by stopping their leader from interfering in the match. The following week the heel trio confronted the new champions and Stratus. In a heated back-and-forth conversation, Stratus declared she was coming out of retirement to team with Lita and Lynch to face Damage CRTL in a big-time tag team match last WrestleMania 39.
