Jim Ross is still All Elite.
Prior to AEW Revolution, it was unknown whether or not the legendary commentator would be available to call Sting’s final match. While Ross’s previously mentioned health implications added uncertainty to the appearance, Jim Ross had also previously confirmed that his contract expired on February 14th.
Thankfully, Ross was able to sit alongside Tony Schiavone and call the action for The Icon’s final match. According to the man himself, this will not be a one-off.
Discussing the contract situation on Grilling JR, Ross confirmed that he had signed a brand new deal as opposed to a brief contract extension, adding that it was the most straightforward negotiation he had ever been a part of:
“We wrote a new deal. We wrote a completely new deal. No extension. New contract. It was probably the quickest and easiest negotiation I have ever done in my career of 50 years. That’s all because of Tony Khan’s commitment to me as a broadcaster. He’s always been a fan of my work, which helps your cause, when your boss is a fan of your work.
We got a new deal. I’ll be back to do more work. I assume it’s going to be centered around the pay-per-view. We’re adding more pay-per-views and big events. I’ll be involved in some degree with those. I’m here, I’m getting better. That will work for me, if I’m working just pay-per-views, I’m very happy to do that,”
In regards to the nature of the deal, Ross stated that he was signed on for another year and is very happy with the conditions:
“I think we’re down for another year. That’s plenty. I’m happy with it. Tony Khan stepped up. Term wise, financial package wise, everything was to my liking. I was very blessed to be working with Tony on that deal. He wanted me signed. He got his man and I got my company. It all worked out real well.”
Jim Ross Provides Recovery Update
Ross has been appearing sporadically as he has been allowing his leg to heal and has been advised not to travel. During an update on social media back in February, Jim Ross gave the fans an update on his road to recovery and also disclosed that he was battling a broken hip.
In recent news, Jim Ross has spoken about the nearing end of his announcing career.
