Jim Ross has discussed Mark Henry joining All Elite Wrestling and says the WWE Hall Of Famers presence on the upcoming new AEW Rampage show proves it won’t be another throw-away wrestling show.
‘The World’s Strongest Man’ stunned the wrestling world when he made his AEW debut at their Double Or Nothing pay-per-view. Tony Schiavone introduced Henry to the crowd adding that he was going to be the analyst on AEW’s new show coming later in the year – AEW Rampage.
Speaking on the following episode of Dynamite the former World Heavyweight Champion was non-committal about getting back inside the ring but harkening back to his famous ‘retirement’ promo said he had a lot left in the tank.
Now AEW announcer and fellow WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross has discussed Henry becoming All Elite and what that means for the company and the upcoming Rampage programme.
Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Ross said:
“He likes helping others. You know he’s got a good eye for talent, he’s coachable, he likes to mentor so that was pretty cool. It gives me credence that the Friday night show Rampage is not going to be a throw away, it’s not a space filler. I was kind of surprised that Mark got out from under the WWE banner and is coming to work with our team.”
“It’s a win-win for everybody I believe and it also opens the door potentially down the road for Mark to have another match or two. He’s still got the itch, it seems to me like. I didn’t see him all day, so they kept him sequestered all day. It didn’t leak, it never got out and he’ll do a real good job there. He’ll be a part of the team on a regular, ongoing basis in multiple roles. Part of the Rampage broadcast team which will premiere on Friday the 13th in August.”
Mark Henry was unwittingly part of another stunning surprise during his appearance on AEW Dynamite. After briefly talking with Tony Schiavone the two men were interrupted and shooed away by the shrill tones of Vickie Guerrero. Guerrero then announced another new face in AEW, former WWE US Champion, Andrade El Idolo.
