Jim Ross Discusses Darby Allin, Says He Has A “Great Mind”

Jim Ross has discussed AEW breakout star Darby Allin saying that he has a great mind for the business and that Allin runs ideas by Ross all the time.

Darby Allin is one of All Elite Wrestling’s early success stories as he has come from a career on the independent scene to become one of the top stars in the upstart company. Allin has used his roots as a skateboarder as well as his general daredevil attitude to win over fans who can tune in to see him every week on TNT.

Allin’s greatest success so far in the company came at the Full Gear pay-per-view in 2020 when he defeated Cody Rhodes for the TNT Championship. In doing so, Allin became the first AEW star that had not wrestled for WWE to win the belt.

Now on his Grilling JR podcast, which is available early and ad-free at AdFreeShows.com, AEW announcer Jim Ross has given his thoughts on Darby Allin. Ross says the two frequently talk with Allin running ideas by him – some that JR loves, and some not so much.

Ross explained to co-host Conrad Thompson:

“Darby Allin has a great mind. Don’t talk about the f*cking spots everybody, just chill for a minute. I’m very privileged to have opportunities to have private conversations with Darby Allin and we have a very good relationship and he runs ideas by me all the time. Some of them I agree with and some of them I don’t. But the good thing he knows is he’s gonna get an honest opinion from me. But he’s a good kid and he’s learning early, the more input you can have in your creative, you increase your odds for success.”

Darby Allin has been showcased through vignettes that appear to be shot by himself. They frequently feature Allin wearing masks of his impending opponent and usually have him destroying something significant. In the run-up to his coffin match with Ethan Page, Allin was seen destroying a coffin with a flamethrower.
