Jim Ross Addresses John Cena’s 17th World Title Reign, Believes One Thing Is More Important For WWE Star

Jim Ross has great admiration for John Cena.

At WrestleMania 41, John Cena defeated Cody Rhodes to capture his 17th World Championship in WWE, surpassing the record he previously shared with Ric Flair.

Speaking on a recent edition of Grilling JR, Jim Ross gave his thoughts on the accomplishment, heaping praise on Cena as a performer while saying that this record-breaking win is just another number for the leader of the Cenation.

“It’s just another number, to be honest with you. I have a lot of respect for John. John was playing Center at Springfield College in Massachusetts when we found him, signed him, trained him, and he’s always been a good friend and done a great job. He’s been a great contributor to the pro wrestling space, as we like to say.

John’s a classic guy. He’s very much devoted and valued as a top commodity. I’m not big on all the numbers. It’s just one of those situations where it is what it is, but I have a lot of respect for John.”

According to Jim Ross, John Cena’s exit from WWE is far more important than the number of championships he’s held.

“It’s interesting to see the landscape and how he’s structuring his exit, and I think that’s important. He’s got a strategy, and we’ll see how that all works out going forward.”

When Will John Cena Retire From WWE?

At Money in the Bank on July 6th, Cena made a surprise appearance and announced that he would be officially retiring from WWE in 2025. While many initially expected that he’d be retiring at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, Cena later clarified that he would wrestle throughout the year with his final bout taking place in December of 2025.
