When Ronda Rousey returned to WWE at the 2022 Royal Rumble the company hoped she would be able to recapture the magic from her first stint as a WWE Superstar.
However, while she has added a Royal Rumble win and two SmackDown Women’s Title runs to her CV, her return to the squared circle has been far from straightforward. Fan response to the star has been mixed at best with many claiming that underwhelming matches and a bad attitude have let her down.
On the December 30th episode of SmackDown, Rousey lost her SmackDown Women’s Title to Charlotte Flair in stunning style. Flair had been absent from WWE since losing out to the former UFC star at WrestleMania Backlash back in May. After a quick challenge was made, Flair dispatched her rival in under a minute to claim the gold.
Jim Cornette Gives Thoughts On Ronda Rousey
Speaking on a recent episode of his Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru podcast, the wrestling manager turned podcaster, gave his assessment of Rousey. Cornette said that if she wasn’t a star from her time in UFC she wouldn’t be in the ring. He added that WWE may now be done with the “Rousey experiment.”
“If Ronda Rousey did not have the name and reputation that she had from the MMA world or UFC, she wouldn’t be on television. There Charlotte’s a star and then there’s Ronda.
Hopefully, is this the end of the Rousey experiment? Ronda Rousey wanted to be a wrestler until she got a little taste of it. She wasn’t even a full-time wrestler. The first run, okay. Then she goes to have kids and raise goats. And I’m not even kidding folks, look it up.”
Cornette’s comments come after Rousey was also dismissed by WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long. The former SmackDown General Manager claimed that the star is someone who would go into business themselves and doesn’t care about wrestling.
