Jim Cornette “Wouldn’t Have A Spot” For Chris Jericho In AEW

By Adam Morrison. Published 25th October 2022.

Brought into All Elite Wrestling as part of the core roster in 2019, Chris Jericho has become a major player for the Tony Khan-helmed organisation. ‘The Ocho’ is currently the ROH World Champion, while also being a one-time and inaugural AEW World Champion, on top of the countless iconic moments, matches, and feuds.

Whether working a gruesome deathmatch as ‘The Painmaker’ vs. Nick Gage, a technical clinic as ‘Lionheart’ vs. Bryan Danielson or being an oblivious clown in the pro-sports entertainment Jericho Appreciation Society, he’s proven he can work in any role provided to him. This has been crucial for Jericho throughout his whole career, particularly within AEW.

The majority of AEW viewers have seen everything Chris Jericho has to offer before in WWE, WCW, ECW, NJPW, and everywhere else in between. That Jericho has found success in new, modernised gimmicks and when adapting his previous alter egos is a testament to the star power he possesses.

Jim Cornette Would Keep Jon Moxley Over Chris Jericho

If Jim Cornette was manning AEW, though, Chris Jericho, would likely be out of a job. This is what Cornette hinted at on the latest Jim Cornette Experience podcast, stating how he would prefer to keep Jon Moxley around on the basis that fans haven’t already seen everything from ‘The Death Rider’:

“Yeah, and I said the same thing for Moxley [denying star power]. And that’s why I kept Moxley and thinking that hopefully that he would be able to do as instructed. Jericho at this point, though, he’s been there, we’ve seen it. I think if you were to keep [him] you can’t change Chris’ mind, he’s firmly stuck in 15 years ago WWF.

And he wants to be the guy and he’s trying to run everybody out of his way. But if you could control his personality, and you could send him home for a while with an injury or whatever, and let people miss him because he went away and bring him back as Chris Jericho, legendary wrestler.

He’s a babyface and he comes back and has a program with another top guy, that might work, but now he’s just been hanging around for so long and doing his stupid sh*t and people are tuning out in droves and he’s surrounded with job guys so he can be the star. And he ain’t getting anybody over, so I wouldn’t have a spot for him right now.”

Chris Jericho recently signed a new deal with AEW that will see him elevated to the roles of producer and creative advisor.
