William Regal’s imminent departure from AEW has been the walk of the wrestling fandom ever since it was announced. His AEW run has been described as a “mistake” or as “buyer’s remorse” by some within the industry.
Others still have noted that William Regal wouldn’t’ve ever been fired from WWE if Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque was in full control then as he is now.
But not everyone is looking at Regal’s AEW departure as a purely negative piece of news for the company. Jim Cornette, one of the most experienced and knowledgeable wrestling personalities in modern history, thinks that, while WWE will obviously benefit from William Regal’s AEW departure, so too will AEW.
“This May Be The Best Thing That Could Have Happened” – Jim Cornette
On a recent episode of his Jim Cornette Experience podcast, the longtime wrestling manager and former promoter presented a possible scenario about Regal’s return to WWE.
According to Cornette, Regal will be in an advantageous position to tell the truth about different AEW talent, and that will impact how Triple H views those same wrestlers should they try to join WWE:
“Now that you think about it, this may be the best thing that could have happened to Tony Khan, to let William Regal out of whatever deal that he had for however long he had it to go back to the WWE.
Regal’s gonna go in there and tell Triple H ‘okay, most of these guys are f*cking green, don’t want to listen, got bad attitudes, don’t want to learn, think they know everything. We don’t want most of them. We want MJF, we want FTR, we want one or two other underneath guys that we can retrain before their bad habits are, you know, unbreakable.’”
Jim Cornette went on to say that once William Regal shares with Triple H what he has seen in and from AEW’s roster, Tony Khan will be able to rest easy knowing that Paul/Triple H won’t want to poach most of their talent in the future.
“But now he knows what these people are like as well as the talents, he knows working with them, he sits back and watches them interact with people. He knows who’s got a bad attitude, he knows who’s a troublemaker. He knows who thinks they know it all. I’ve just rattled off 80% of the roster.
So will it be good for Tony in that Regal will go back and say ‘Paul/ we don’t want most of those f*cking guys.’”
