Wrestling legend Jim Cornette has given his thoughts on why WWE Chairman Vince McMahon will never allow himself to be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame.
The WWE Hall Of Fame was founded in 1993 with the late, great Andre The Giant being the first inductee into its hallowed halls. A ceremony then took place every year with 1996 seeing the last class of inductees into the WWE Hall Of Fame until 2004.
2004 saw WrestleMania 20 take place in WWE’s spiritual home of Madison Square Garden. It was then in this year that the WWE Hall Of Fame became a permanent part of the WrestleMania celebrations as the company honoured those that had achieved greatness in the wrestling industry.
Current WWE Chairman Vincent Kennedy McMahon’s own father and former owner of the WWF Vince J. McMahon was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 1996. But now long time wrestling manager Jim Cornette speaking on his Drive Thru podcast has explained why he doesn’t expect the younger Vince McMahon to be inducted during his lifetime:
“Vince will never go in the Hall of Fame as long as he is still alive. That is one thing he constantly tells everybody, he gets mad if they don’t listen, he doesn’t want anyone to thank him on their acceptance speeches.”
“I don’t know if it’s because let’s face it, Vince has a fairly healthy ego. I don’t know if he wants to be humble and loveable like shoeshine boy, but he knows the ways that the boys are.”
“I think from a standpoint from how the fans, the viewers, and the people at home would take it, every son of a b*tch that comes out thanks Vince McMahon, then he thinks it ruins the viewing experience, and it gets heat on him from the viewer, ban that activity. He gets mad if they slip and do.”
Vince McMahon reportedly dislikes being mentioned in WWE Hall Of Fame speeches so much that writer Robert Evans quit before he was fired after Bret Hart thanked McMahon in 2019 when The Hart Foundation were inducted.
