WWE Hall of Famer Jim Cornette is no stranger to controversy, and the legendary manager addressed the recent upheaval in WWE on a recent episode of his podcast.
The political landscape of the sports entertainment giant was rocked on January 5th when Vince McMahon announced his intention to elect himself back to the Board of Directors after retiring in July amidst an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct and hush money payments. His return announcement also revealed his intention to prepare the company for sale.
Days later, co-CEO Stephanie McMahon announced her resignation from the company, leaving Nick Khan as its sole CEO. Moments after her resignation became public, a press release revealed that Vince McMahon had been unanimously elected Executive Chairman of the WWE Board of Directors.
Later that night, a report emerged that the company had finalized a sale to the Saudi Arabia Investment Fund, but the report turned out to be premature as no deal has been reached yet. Still, the controversial Saudi Arabia Investment Fund is one of the leaders in a pool of potential buyers that also includes rival company AEW’s owners Shahid and Tony Khan.
Jim Cornette Believes CM Punk Is The Only Person Who Could Shift Attention From WWE’s Recent Controversy
Speaking on a recent episode of The Jim Cornette Experience, the legendary wrestling manager addressed the recent controversy surrounding his former employer and said that only one star’s return could take attention away from the rumor mill: CM Punk.
“Yeah I mean, you know, our boy Punk has been off the front pages for a while, he needs to make a comeback on that. Because he was the only thing that was really competing with the all the WWE palace intrigue for views and clicks and thought and discussion amongst all of [the news], because everything in the ring sucks donkey c*cks these days.
“So Punk take somebody else down too, if you can, get a hold of Cutlet and f*ck him up, just stretch him for me, put a ham sandwich on his back and starve him to death maybe.”
Punk hasn’t been seen in the world of wrestling since launching into a verbal tirade at a media scrum following AEW All Out in September. His comments about Adam Page and the AEW EVP’s led to a confrontation with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, and a brawl ensued that saw Punk’s friend Ace Steel not only throw a chair at Nick Jackson, but also bite Kenny Omega.
Everyone involved in the brawl was suspended, and while The Elite returned to the company at AEW Full Gear, Punk is nowhere to be seen. The most recent update on his status with AEW is that talks between Punk and Tony Khan have stalled.
