Owing to their similar in-ring styles and personalities, WWE and IMPACT Hall of Famer Kurt Angle compared Seth Rollins to Shawn Michaels on a recent edition of his Kurt Angle Show podcast. Angle elaborated, noting that although ‘The Visionary’ isn’t quite on Michaels’ level, he’ll be there in about “30-something years”.
Hailing the current WWE United States Champion as an “incredible performer”, Kurt Angle claimed that Rollins is constantly producing several five-star matches with just about anyone he wrestles. For reference, Rollins earned his first official five-star match award this past June at Hell in a Cell vs. Cody Rhodes.
“[Shawn Michaels] Was Nearly The Best In The Business” – Jim Cornette
Speaking on the latest episode of Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru, Cornette claimed that Kurt Angle was only making the claims due to Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels being similar to one another:
“I think he [Kurt Angle] is making the comparison because they resemble each other, in terms of, they were in the guy in WWE at their individual times that was long, lean, and athletic. I don’t know that you can compare Seth with Shawn Michaels in terms of, you know, drawing ability and box office.”
Continuing, Jim Cornette complimented Seth Rollins for his work ethic, but doesn’t believe he’s nearly on the same level as Shawn Michaels:
“I mean, Seth is good. But Michaels, the one thing you have to do about the obnoxious little pr*ck that he was, he was nearly the best in the business. Especially at the WWF style of the ’90s.”
Seth Rollins most recently competed on the October 31 Monday Night Raw, defeating Austin Theory in a non-title bout. He’s held the United States Championship since the red brand’s October 10 broadcast, dethroning Bobby Lashley to begin his second reign with the championship.
