Jim Cornette has given his view on Kenny Omega’s contentious remarks at a recent AEW talent meeting.
Ahead of All Out, former AEW World Champion and Executive Vice President Kenny Omega addressed the assembled AEW roster at a mandatory talent meeting. During the congregation, it is believed Omega told the roster that he would not have hired eight out of ten of them.
Speaking on his Jim Cornette Experience podcast, Cornette was asked by co-host Brian Last if he was aware of the reports of Omega saying he wouldn’t hire 80% of the company circulating as if it was brand new news when it was something that Cornette and Last had previously discussed weeks ago:
“Yeah. Well, they were acting like, oh, that’s just a rumour that didn’t happen. No, that’s what happened. That’s why we said that’s what happened. And now a couple of weeks later, everybody’s catching up to us. These doubting Thomases and now, certain people sympathetic to the cause of twinkle toes and the rest of his merry band pranksters are going he was just kind of joking, or he was looking at Will Ospreay because they got heat. Does Will Ospreay constitute 8 out of 10 of the AEW roster?”
Last commented on Ospreay working for New Japan Pro-Wrestling as opposed to being a part of the AEW roster, to which Jim Cornette responded:
“Well, exactly. But no, they’re trying to deflect. If he was looking at Ospreay when he said that, then why didn’t he say I wouldn’t have hired all of you or there are certain of you I wouldn’t have hired while exchanging a pointed glance with Mr Ostrich, his Japanese rival.
But no, he just made a blanket statement. Hey, if it was up to me, I wouldn’t hire eight out of 10 of you. Well, we got news for you twinkle toes. They’re probably quite a few of them that would say the same thing about you.
They just can’t because you’re, you used to be an executive vice president of the company, and they’re waiting to see whether or not you will be again before they say ‘You f*cking dog face piece of sh*t don’t talk to me like that or I’ll slap the taste out of your mouth.’ That’s what they would have said to you, had you not been their boss when you said that.”
Omega’s controversial comments were somewhat overshadowed in the aftermath of All Out following the media scrum after the event and backstage brawl that resulted in numerous top names being suspended by the company. The bite mark Omega reportedly received during the brawl was visible during a recent appearance.
A new report states that yet another talent meeting took place before Wednesday’s Dynamite Grand Slam event.
