Jim Cornette reserved special praise for Logan Paul following his match at SummerSlam, commenting that he’s more accomplished than a number of AEW stars.
Logan Paul is a social media mega star who has found his way to the squared circle. He has a massive following on YouTube, and he grew up a fan of WWE. He has stated before that performing in the ring is a dream come true.
Most celebrities who have starred in the WWE usually do one match or cut one promo, but Logan Paul has signed a multi-year deal with the company which allows him to be featured in multiple events.
At SummerSlam Logan Paul put on one of, if not the greatest performance a celebrity has ever given in a WWE ring. His match with The Miz featured a Frog-splash from the top turnbuckle onto the announce table and the Moonsault off the apron onto the Miz at ringside to name just two.
While speaking on the Jim Cornette Experience, Jim Cornette praised Paul for his performance, commenting that he has “excellent potential” to get even better.
“Have you noticed that the celebrities and folks from other sports on SummerSlam were more accomplished wrestlers than half the roster in AEW? He [Logan Paul] gets it. This is his second match, and Miz comes out with Maryse, and he also came out with Ciampa, the standout of NXT has been reduced to a flunky cornerman.”
“But Logan Paul, he looks better physically than Miz, and I have been hard on Miz but I will give him credit here. Logan Paul is taking this seriously and has obviously been working hard and has obviously trained hard. He does moves well but he is still green, and Miz is putting up with a lot to put him where he needs to be, put up with the stiffness.”
“I’m not talking about the potatoes, I’m talking about you want to take an arm well it’s like a table leg. You want to turn a guy, he doesn’t know instinctively where to go so you have to turn him around. Jerky body movements, that is what Miz is putting up with. But Logan Paul, he gets it and he gets selling. He wasn;t just going down he was moving, and screaming, with facials. He is not Jack Briscoe after 2 matches, but excellent job and great potential to get better if he is going to be around with this contract.”
“They both go to the floor and Logan Paul is clearing the desk off, puts Miz on and goes to the f*cking top. And jumps off what was that, 20 feet? Again, I hate sh*t like this because it was same thing that Shane had to do and Cactus had to do on a lot of big shows ‘What are we going to do to top it?’”
“Goddamn it was beautiful, frog splash off the top rope through the announcers desk with Miz on top of it. And he hit him right, so kudos to Miz for laying there while this guy who has had a match and a half in his life comes through the f*cking air and blasts you through a table. And then they live!”
“These things, they are big show spots now, they used to be angles. You used to do the most impressive or most dangerous looking thing as the angle, and then they would come back and have a match over it. Now, they do all the same kind of sh*t in the angle and do the move when people have already paid to see the match. It looked great.”
On the August 1st edition of Monday Night Raw, Paul appeared in a video package where he said that now he’s done with Miz, he’s ready for his next challenge.
