On the latest episode of the Jim Cornette Experience, the legendary manager reserved special praise for former NXT UK Women’s Champion Toni Storm.
During the podcast, Cornette ran down the current WWE roster as only he can. While the former promotor was typically scathing about some, he did praise the soon to be SmackDown Superstar saying that she “looks like a star.”
Following a stellar run on both NXT and NXT UK, Toni Storm is set to make her main roster debut on the July 23rd episode of SmackDown.
On the most recent episode of the blue brand a vignette appeared showing some career highlights for the New Zealand native. It was then revealed that she would be making her debut the following week.
The July 23rd edition of SmackDown will be presented in partnership with the Rolling Loud Miami music festival.
The partnership will see a split-site broadcast where a number of matches will air from the rap festival with the remainder coming from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland.
The deal marks the first time that WWE have partnered with a major music festival.
Also announced for the show, Bianca Belair will defend her SmackDown Women’s Title against Carmella.
Toni Storm made her WWE debut in the first Mae Young Classic tournament in 2017, reaching the semi-finals before falling to eventual winner Kairi Sane. The New Zealand-native ended up signing with the company a year later and went on to win the second Mae Young Classic, defeating Io Shirai at WWE Evolution for the honour.
Storm’s momentum continued into 2019, capturing the NXT UK Women’s Championship from Rhea Ripley at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool and holding the belt until August of that year before debuting in NXT this past October. There, the 25-year-old unsuccessfully challenged for the NXT Women’s Championship on multiple occasions and had most recently been feuding with Zoey Stark.
