Jim Cornette On How He’d Book The Fiend – “It’s All F***ing Phoney”

Bray Wyatt as The Fiend

‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt has become one of the more controversial and talked about characters in recent WWE history.

From the moment that Bray Wyatt debuted his new alias in April 2019, he has become something of a polarising figure. The character leans heavily on the ‘entertainment’ in sports entertainment, leading some to criticise the character and his reliance on cinematic matches.

Speaking on the latest episode of Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru, Cornette has offered his opinion on how he would book ‘The Fiend’ in WWE. The legendary manager explained that while there is a place for a “psychopath” like character, ‘The Fiend’ is simply too outlandish.

“First of all, the whole problem with The Fiend is that it’s all fucking phoney, if you want to have a fucking psychopath, that’s fine, I’m all for people that are crazy. If you’ve got a guy that convince people that he’s crazy and dangerous, then that’s a fucking attraction in wrestling. But when he does things that are blatantly phoney or stupid, or they cross the lines of any sensible reasoning, such as teleporting himself from one place to another, or having gasoline poured on him and burned alive in front of us and coming back three weeks later, fuck you, it’s a goddamn bunch of hot garbage.”

Cornette continued, calling the character and his story, some of the “worst stuff that i’ve ever seen in wrestling.” Adding that the presentation is “unsalvageable.”

“So, I don’t know how I would’ve booked him from the start because I don’t know whether he’s willingly gone along with this or he’s one of the people they just make do this stupid shit. If he really wanted to be burned alive and have a hundred pound schoolgirl on a swing with stupid puppets, goofy music, and vomiting black sludge, I would have probably booked him a one-way ticket back to where he came from.”

“This whole thing is probably the worst stuff that I’ve ever seen in wrestling, and over the last year and half or two years, imagine how much that takes in, 50% of it has involved The Fiend, every time we see him, it’s garbage. It’s goofy fucking puppets appearing out of nowhere, it’s supernatural bullshit, black sludge vomit, being killed in front of us and then just getting up or whatever, it’s totally unsalvageable, its not even wrestling anymore.”

The former Head Booker of Smokey Mountain Wrestling closed by saying that he didn’t understand the attraction of the character.

“I don’t know what the attraction is that anybody would be entertained by this horseshit but, no, I wouldn’t book The Fiend except possibly a long stay at a mental institution.”

Meanwhile, recently released WWE Superstar Chelsea Green has revealed that she pitched to join ‘The Fiend’ and Alexa Bliss. Green explained that she felt her ‘Hot Mess’ character could have fitted in perfectly with the deadly duo.
