The antics between Shayna Baszler and Alexa Bliss have been polarising, to say the least, now Jim Cornette has given his take on the supernatural shenanigans between the former shoot fighter and the increasingly twisted Bliss.
Alexa Bliss’ character in WWE took a turn for the surreal when she found herself an unlikely ally for The Fiend Bray Wyatt. Seemingly under Wyatt’s control, Bliss helped The Fiend in several instances, most notably attacking Randy Orton with a fireball to the face.
Of all this came to a head at WrestleMania 37 when The Fiend faced Orton in a one-on-one match. Wyatt entered via a giant jack-in-the-box that Bliss released him from. All seemed to be going well for Wyatt until a distraction from Bliss who had black ooze running down her face cost him the match. Alexa Bliss later explained that she came to realise she did not need The Fiend and introduced a doll named Lily who Bliss now seems to be answering to.
One target of Bliss’s mind games is former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Shayna Baszler. On a recent Raw, Baszler attempted to flee from Lily, locking herself in a room backstage. As fans of any horror movie will tell you, Lily was soon on hand as Baszler kept seeing her in the reflection of a mirror.
The two women looked to settle the score once and for all at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view when Bliss faced Baszler. Jim Cornette was reviewing the whole event on his Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru podcast and gave his blistering reaction to the goings-on between Bliss and Baszler.
“If this match had been presented in any arena in the territory days of any wrestling promotion, any territory, it would have caused a f*cking riot. Because people would have been so insulted, confused, incensed, storming the box office demanding their money back, screaming ‘Fake, phoney!’ It would kill the town, the promoter if you did something like this, nobody would ever have come back and bought another ticket. Now they do it on f*cking worldwide television!”
“First of all in the package, besides the fact that they want us to think that Alexa Bliss could in any way shape or form is gonna last two minutes physically with Shayna Baszler, who was an actual MMA fighter. The apologise to the doll shtick, the sci-fi lighting all through the backstage area of the arena they were in. She’s running from the doll and she’s panicked, an MMA fighter and she’s running from a voodoo doll and she panics and slams the door and puts the chain on the door. Then turns around and it’s in the room! No, it’s not! It’s in the mirror! No, it’s not! She breaks the mirror, it’s still there! Before the match even started I wrote ‘F*ck all these people.'”
Jim Cornette continued, now talking about the match itself:
“So they had this match. Baszler the MMA shoot fighter came out with a 350-pound tag team partner and a manager from Cirque du Soleil, and Alexa Bliss – who is the heel here?! Is it the demonic, super-naturally possessed black oil vomiter or the MMA fighter with the big tag team partner and the manager who outnumbers the 90-pound evil, satanic [Bliss].”
“Basically the story of whatever this was was Shayna Baszler would kick the sh*t out of Alexa Bliss and Alexa Bliss would sell for a second and then start laughing and ask her to do some more. And she crawls weird also, she must be double-jointed, or triple-jointed, or possibly a contortionist.”
“[…] Anyway, at some point Alexa Bliss hypnotised Shayna Baszler and then made a comeback, and then everything came to a halt when she turned around and hypnotised Nia Jax into slapping the dog p*ss out of old Reggie. Everything comes to a halt, Alexa Bliss standing in the ring staring at Nia Jax, Nia Jax with a different type of dumbfounded blank look that she normally has, normally she’s confused, this was just a trance. She just f*cking b*tch slapped Reggie out of his socks. I wrote ‘This is God awful.’ Then somehow Alexa splashed Shayna off the top, 1-2-3, that was it. Then Nia Jax didn’t realise what she did to Reginald and…dreck.”
