Jim Cornette has discussed the match at AEWxNJPW Forbidden Door he decided to skip despite having recently praised one of the competitors.
Forbidden Door saw the stars of AEW and NJPW go head-to-head in a night of spectacular action that has earned plaudits from fans and critics alike.
One of the most anticipated bouts saw Will Ospreay put the IWGP United States Championship on the line against Orange Cassidy. However, one man who had no interest in the match was legendary manager Jim Cornette.
Although he recently praised Ospreay as “blowing Kenny Omega out of the water”, the inclusion of Cassidy meant this was one bout he had no interest in. Speaking on ‘The Jim Cornette Experience‘, he described what he saw of the match and the run-in from Katsuyori Shibata in his own inimitable style.
“So anyway, it was Ostrich and Pockets. According to my time counter that registered as I was fast-forwarding this, they gave this thing 16 minutes on a four-hour show and they need 16 minutes of the goofball.
“There was a five-minute afterbirth with the heels getting heat and then some other Japanese guy does a run-in and beats up Ostrich and his unknown minions. That went another five or six minutes and ended with the mascot putting his sunglasses on the Japanese guy. So that was over 20 minutes on pay-per-view.”
