A recent news story has emerged surrounding the potential sale of WWE to AEW owner and promoter Tony Khan.
On his podcast, Jim Cornette commented on the situation, stating that it would be a “ridiculous notion” for Tony Khan to purchase WWE. Despite the potential for a high bid, he believes WWE would not consider selling to Tony Khan due to his lack of business experience. Cornette noted that while Tony Khan has been successful with the money he has, it would still be far above his level of expertise, comfort or competence to run a company of that size.
Jim Cornette Questions Tony Khan’s Ability To Run A Company Of WWE’s Size
Cornette added that Vince McMahon has an extensive understanding of the inner workings of the WWE and has an impressive business acumen. He pointed out that if you are dealing with a major entertainment entity, such as WWE, you would want a major media company, like Warner Brothers Discovery or NBCUniversal, to purchase it. He further explained that it would not make sense to have a buyer who won the lottery and is bringing in $6 billion in a shoe box.
The wrestling veteran believes that AEW buying WWE would be an unrealistic notion. He stated that it would be far above the heads of Tony Khan and the rest of the AEW team to know how to run a company of that size. He added that the employees at all levels of the WWE, from the highest level to the middle, would be more experienced, more well-versed and more organised in running a business than what the owner would be at that point.
“One thing we can’t say about Vince McMahon is that he doesn’t know how everything works in that company. He knows who is responsible for what, the ins and outs of the business, and the wrestling fans have come to appreciate his business acumen. Who does everything, who’s responsible for everything? And the wrestling fans get mad because his booking went insane or just becoming stuff to please himself over the last however long. But has anybody ever said Vince McMahon’s an idiot when it comes to business?”
Jim Cornette’s comments bring to light the potential implications of the WWE being sold to Tony Khan. It would undoubtedly change the landscape of the entire wrestling business, and fans would be treated to countless dream matches between the stars from each promotion.
However, it is highly unlikely that Vince McMahon would agree to sell the company to Khan, as it is not in the best interest of the WWE and its employees.
