Legendary manager Jim Cornette has praised Tony Khan for signing former ROH star Jay Lethal after he made his surprise debut at AEW Full Gear.
While AEW Full Gear featured significantly less surprises and shock debuts than All Out in September, the show did see the roll out of one new signing. Jay Lethal.
The star had been appearing with Ring of Honor but with the news that the promotion will be taking a lengthy hiatus, decided to make the switch to AEW.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Jim Cornette Experience, the legendary manager turned podcaster, gave his thoughts on AEW’s most recent signing. Jim Cornette congratulated Tony Khan for signing Lethal, describing him as an “untapped resource.”
“So now once again AEW has people going ‘Oooh the pay-per-view, ooh Jay Lethal…’ And hold on, Tony you did something right for once. I don’t need to congratulate Jay Lethal, he deserves it, he deserves better. I am congratulating Tony because Jay Lethal was available and he could sign him up. Jay Lethal for years has been an untapped resource. I know he has been in Ring of Honor and has been happy and contractually committed there, but I have always thought that he has deserved a top spot where the most people can see what he can do while he still can.”
Cornette explained that he didn’t blame Lethal for leaving ROH, especially in light of the recent news coming from the promotion.
“Jay Lethal has got options, and is too good to sit around and be booked on the spur of the moment every so often. Obviously, I’m not saying he has had issues with Ring of Honor, who hasn’t? I haven’t talked to him in ages and I don’t know what the situation is. I assume he has been there for so long that there is some loyalty to the company. But that doesn’t mean that there is someone over here that is on national television that is going to offer you a full time contract, that the loyalty should extend to ‘No I’m good until next March.’ So I don’t blame him for taking it at all.”

The out-spoken wrestling personality then offered a few more names that he would like to see AEW bring in, including the Briscoe brothers.
“They can’t sign everybody, I’m sure that there will be a number of Ring of Honor guys available, and they want to stick with the thing to see where it is going. But if AEW could get Jay Lethal and Mark and Jay Briscoe, holy sh*t. Then you’ve got tons, let’s hope Kyle O’Reilly is coming, Bobby Fish and Adam Cole are already there. Please God can we get O’Reilly and Strong and get Adam Cole away from his children.”
Jay Lethal will have his debut match in AEW on the November 17th edition of Dynamite when he will take on Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship.
