Jim Cornette Says Cody Rhodes Won’t Be Main Event Star In WWE

Cody Rhodes

Jim Cornette has commented that he doesn’t think Cody Rhodes will be a permanent fixture in WWE’s main event scene due to his run in AEW.

On February 15th, Cody Rhodes and his wife Brandi announced that they were leaving AEW, where they had been since the company’s inception. It took only a matter of minutes from the announcement for speculation to begin linking Rhodes with a return to WWE where he started his career.

In the days following his AEW exit it was reported that WWE has major plans for the star should he decide to return. Further fuel was added to the fire on the February 21st episode of Monday Night Raw where numerous references were made to the American Nightmare.

Speaking on a recent episode of his podcast, The Jim Cornette Experience, the legendary manager discussed the possibility of Cody Rhodes returning to WWE. Cornette explained that although Rhodes will no doubt be well paid, he is unlikely to become a fixture in the main event due to his recent history with AEW.

“Do you think they are going to hire a guy who was a champion in AEW, one of the top guys and has a number of victories over some of the others, and then push him to the moon and start beating the major players in the WWE? I don’t think so. I think that Cody will be a very well paid upper mid-card guy.

They want the information, the visual and the optic. But they also want a guy who can work on the card, but he’s not going to be the be all and end all of all their problems. They are not going to have an AEW guy get the victory over Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar or Bobby Lashley anytime soon. So he’s going to take the money, leave his friends in the lurch and get paid as a very well upper mid-card guy for the next few years until his next reality show takes off. That’s what I think.”

At time of writing there has been no confirmation as to if or when Cody Rhodes will sign with WWE, however, it has been reported that Brandi will not be joining him should be sign with Vince McMahon.
