Wrestling legend Jim Cornette has given his thoughts on how the new management structure at the top of WWE could affect Cody Rhodes.
Cody Rhodes returned to WWE after six years away as the surprise opponent for Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38. Rhodes defeated Rollins on The Grandest Stage of Them All and again on two more occasions on premium live events with the last of those being at Hell In A Cell when The American Nightmare competed with a torn pectoral muscle.
While Cody Rhodes has been on the shelf recovering, WWE has undergone some drastic changes. Vince McMahon has retired from his role as Chairman and CEO with Stephanie McMahon, Nick Khan, and Triple H all working to fill the gap left by McMahon.
Speaking on his Experience podcast, Jim Cornette gave his thoughts on what these changes at the top could mean for Cody Rhodes and alluded to Rhodes’ famous breaking of the throne entrance:
“I think with what we’ve seen that Triple H is willing to, you know, repair bridges with people and bring people back and he’s told somebody I don’t care what went on before, we’ll start fresh. I don’t think a throne-breaking entrance is going to be a big deal.”
“Triple H knows they need top baby faces, and that’s the whole reason why Cody got this spot to begin with. And the story, for once Vince was hitting a home run because the story is perfect and he’s the perfect guy to tell it because it’s real and it fits. He’s the son of the guy that almost won the title in the Garden and may have been in an alternate universe if he didn’t go with the NWA, and if Vince didn’t go with Hulk Hogan, could have been the WWF Champion.”
“He was one of the top two or three box office attractions in anybody’s business at that point. Cody wants to come and fulfil that destiny and he’s got the picture and the story, and we talked about Cody being a perfect sports entertainer for that atmosphere in that audience. So I think Triple H is gonna see that and he’s gonna go well, okay, we signed this guy for I assume a long-term contract. He got hurt, unfortunately, but we had started something, it seemed to be working and it seemed to be getting over. Why don’t we continue to do that?”
“If there was a plethora of talent out there that could draw money that could perform at a high level that could be available and, you know, take Cody’s spot or take the top two or three spots, that might be one thing, but there ain’t that. And there’s not going to be in the next six months or less, or however long it’s gonna take, you know, for Cody to get back. So I think unless there’s something we don’t know about the two of their interactions. I think they’re gonna be fine. I think they’ll pick Cody up right where it left off.”
