Jim Cornette Claims Popular WWE Star Has “Hit A Ceiling And Stayed There”

Jim Cornette believes that something hasn’t quite worked out for SmackDown star Drew McIntyre.

Although McIntyre is a two-time World Champion, he hasn’t competed for the World Title since being defeated by Roman Reigns at Clash At The Castle back in September 2022. The Scottish star has remained on television, and heavily featured on SmackDown, but has spent much of the last six months out of the main event picture.

This is despite the Scottish Warrior enjoying huge popularity with fans.

Jim Cornette Gives Opinion On Drew McIntyre

Speaking on a recent episode of his podcast, The Jim Cornette Experience, the legendary manager gave his opinion on McIntyre and his current situation. Cornette explained that despite McIntyre having all of the tools to kick on to superstardom, he appears to have hit a ceiling as a performer.

“Drew McIntyre hit a ceiling and stayed there, he’s got the look, he can talk ok, he’s got the size and the body and his work. But it just, something didn’t happen.”

Despite not being in contention for a shot at the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, Drew McIntyre is still set to be involved in a major match at WrestleMania 39. After his friendship with Sheamus appeared to run into trouble, the pair met on the March 17th episode of SmackDown to decide who will face Intercontinental Champion Gunther.

The match was eventually waved off after Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci of Imperium attacked both men. This led to a Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Title being announced for WrestleMania.
