Jim Cornette is a pro wrestling savant and he considers one legend a genius.
On the latest episode of the Jim Cornette Experience, Cornette gave his thoughts as to what makes a WWE Hall Of Famer like Rey Mysterio on another level with wrestling IQ and part of that is knowing your age and what your body is capable of.
“Rey is a genius in that almost exclusively now, the heels open up strong on him so he can fight from underneath. Then, he’ll give them a move and a tease of another move, but they’ll shut him down. So, he gives the fans a little bit at a time, but he’s always fighting from underneath. Then, finally, when he makes his big comeback it’s brilliant because he’s smaller, he’s older, he’s a legend, but he’s got the trademark moves and he knows how to put it together. It’s brilliant.”
Rey Mysterio’s Style Today Reflects Jim Cornette’s Observation
A perfect example of what Cornette has conveyed about Rey Mysterio’s ability to adjust to a simpler style is the WrestleMania 39 match he had against his son Dominik. While there were plenty of times Rey was on the offensive, Dominik and the outside help from The Judgment Day put the WWE Hall of Famer in the position of fighting underneath and when it was right, pulled the trigger on his trademark spots. After it was all said and done, Mysterio came out with the feel-good victory in what became one of the most popular matches of the weekend.
