Jey Uso Wins WWE World Heavyweight Championship; Gunther Continues Unfortunate WrestleMania Streak

WWE WrestleMania 41 Betting Odds Released, Many Title Changes Expected Jey Uso Gunther

Jey Uso is finally ‘Main Event’.

Pursuing the World title for years now, Jey Uso earned his rightful shot at the title after winning the 2025 Royal Rumble match. Inching one step closer to the World title, Jey Uso found himself challenging Gunther at WrestleMania 41 for it.

However, despite being regarded as the underdog in this feud and suffering severe mental and physical damage from The Ring General, Jey Uso was finally able to keep him down during their Mania 41 opening match in Las Vegas. Following one of the grandest WrestleMania entrances of all time, Uso dropped the Imperium leader with multiple splashes and spears and trapped him in the sleeper hold.

While fans expected Gunther to give a fight and battle the chokehold, he instead tapped immediately, and Jey Uso secured the victory. However, while Uso won his first WWE World Championship, Gunther’s unfortunate WrestleMania streak continued.

Holding the championship for 260 days and four successful title defenses, it was finally time for someone else to hold the gold. Defeating Gunther with the same move which he tried to finish Jimmy Uso’s career, was nothing short of a poetic finish.

Toward the conclusion of the match, a teary-eyed Jimmy Uso joined his brother Jey Uso in the ring. Jey Uso achieved his maiden World Championship victory, in contrast to Gunther’s ongoing string of defeats at WrestleMania. Having suffered two consecutive singles WrestleMania defeats in the last two years, the former champion now anticipates changing his fate at The Showcase of the Immortals.

Despite their previous rivalry, The Usos displayed their unity and shared the stage after ‘Main Event’ Jimmy Uso’s win.

Later in the night, The New Day also defeated The War Raiders to take home the Tag-team title.

Jey Uso Believes This WWE Match Put Him On The Map

Recently, during an interview on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, Jey Uso revealed the match that put him on the promotion’s map.

“That put us on the map right there, one. Two, I remember it like it was yesterday, Uce. The Shield was the hottest thing at that moment. We’re in Philadelphia. Me and my brother come out, boom, we’re the babyfaces at this point. We come out, Shield music hits and the place erupted. I look at my brother like, ‘Let’s see what happens’ cause it was like they were the babyfaces. We weren’t even supposed to be in that match. We were just waiting, ‘What team is next?’ ‘Usos are here.’ ‘Let’s do it.’

At the end of that match, we had them on fire. I liked how it switched because [the fans] were with The Shield, but towards the end, they were chanting, ‘Usos’ too. I was like, ‘I think we’re on our way. I think we’re good here.’ The following week, we were on TV consistently. I remember Mark Henry saying, I’ve never seen a team go out there and [the fans] are flat on their hands, but by the end of the match everyone was standing and cheering.’ That’s the first match where I felt like, ‘This is what it’s supposed to be like. This is that feel.’”

In other news: WWE has purchased this legendary Mexican wrestling promotion.
