Jeff Jarrett wasn’t pleased with one match at WrestleMania 41.
Randy Orton was originally scheduled to face Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, but on April 4th, Owens announced that he needed to undergo neck surgery for a severe injury and the WrestleMania match was off. On the April 18th edition of SmackDown, Orton announced that he would be issuing an open challenge for someone to face him at WrestleMania, leading to plenty of speculation as to who his opponent would be.
On the night, fans were shocked and delighted to see Orton’s open challenge answered by TNA Champion Joe Hendry, and reports indicate that it was Orton himself who chose Hendry to fill the role. The match was a short one, and Orton picked up the victory in about three minutes, leading to criticism that the TNA Champion wasn’t presented well on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
“There Could Have Been So Much More” – Jeff Jarrett
Speaking on a recent edition of his My World podcast, Jeff Jarrett hurled criticism at WWE for choosing to present Hendry in the manner they did. According to the Hall of Famer, the match did little to nothing for either Randy Orton or Joe Hendry.
“A massive, massive letdown … Randy’s got a lot of history, not just in WWE but with that event, so I just kind of feel that as it relates to Randy, did a three minute win help him at all? No. Like none.
For Hendry, are you kidding me? I’m sure a bucket list item, he don’t care at all and I guess you could say seeing a TNA World Champion at Mania, that was kind of interesting, the wins and losses, the positioning, I don’t read into that at all … Randy was still getting his hand raised so in the grand scheme of things, what did it really matter? I was just really very let down on Randy’s part because I just think there could have been so much more put into that.”
In a recent interview, Joe Hendry revealed when he found out he’d be competing at WrestleMania.
