The fallout from Jeff Hardy’s arrest continues to be felt in AEW with a report saying there was “frustration” in the company with him as early as WrestleMania weekend.
Jeff Hardy left WWE under a cloud at the tail end of 2021 with many fans expecting him to reunite with his brother Matt in AEW. On the 9th of March edition of AEW Dynamite, the former WWE Champion did just that coming to Matt’s aid after the rest of The AHFO turned on him.
Jeff Hardy has made headlines for all the wrong reasons recently following his arrest for yet another DUI. When Hardy was picked up by police he was reportedly almost four times the legal limit and footage has since emerged of him performing at a concert earlier in the night where he seems to be drinking whisky.
Fightful Select has now reported the chaos that Hardy’s arrest and subsequent suspension by AEW has done to the tag team scene in the company. The Hardys were due to face Jurassic Express and The Young Bucks in a Three-Way Ladder Match at Road Rager but Matt and Jeff have been removed from that bout.
The report adds that prior to Double Or Nothing the company was giving a lot of thought to putting the AEW Tag Team Championship on The Hardys.
However, there was said to be “frustration” from some in the company as early as WrestleMania weekend after rumours spread that Jeff Hardy had been publicly “intoxicated” at more than one event.
The Hardys match at Double Or Nothing with The Young Bucks is said to have caused some alarm in AEW although Jeff Hardy is said to have suffered a head knock early on and Matt Hardy has since said that his brother cannot remember the bout.
However, talk of The Hardys winning tag team gold then diminished with The Young Bucks becoming front runners to defeat Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus at some point for the gold.
Fighful’s report finishes by saying that although there is a lot of concern for Jeff Hardy internally at this time, there is also a good amount of frustration that a situation like this could occur again.
