The legendary tag-team duo of Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy are set to create a new WWE record.

Last week on the February 18th episode of NXT, No Quarter Catch Crew’s Tavion Heights and Myles Borne called out TNA World Tag-Team Champions, The Hardys for a match on NXT, which was swiftly accepted by the brothers.

The Hardys last wrestled together on WWE TV back in April 2019, when they defeated the Usos for their tag-team championships. Making a return after a six-year absence on the 25th February episode of NXT, the brothers are also set to break this record.

According to a wrestling page on X(Twitter), Matt Hardy’s return to NXT will set a record for the longest gap between two NXT matches of any star in the brand’s history. Hardy last competed in NXT on 30th March 2010 in an eight-man tag-team match. Making his return after a gap of 15 years, the current champion is set to break Carlito’s record of 13 years and nine months between his two NXT matches.

Matt Hardy Reveals How Quickly His NXT Return Plans Took Place

Speaking on a recent edition of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy Podcast, Hardy opened up on how quickly his NXT return decision took place. Calling it a last-minute decision, he shared,

“This was a very last-minute thing. It’s cool because everyone knows that TNA and NXT have this partnership right now—TNA and WWE. I think it’s gonna continue to expand, but it has already been so beneficial to both TNA and NXT.

“Even when that happened on Tuesday night, that little video of Jeff and I on NXT, that had only existed about an hour, 45 minutes before that. This is not something that had been long-term planned. It was very spur of the moment, and that kind of makes you feel alive.”

In another interview, Matt and Jeff Hardy looked back on the inaugural TLC match.
