JBL Reveals How Sami Zayn Caused Him To Quit His Agent Role

JBL Sami Zayn

JBL explained why working with Sami Zayn led to him quitting his role as an agent in WWE.

While WWE Hall of Famer JBL is most known for his in-ring career and later being a prominent voice on commentary, he also served as a backstage agent in WWE for a short time. However, the job only lasted six weeks, and on the latest episode of Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, he revealed that working with Sami Zayn what led him to make the decision to stick to commentary.

“Sami Zayn! [laughs] I love Sami. I think his character’s great, but I was his agent and everything was questioned… Sami is the nicest guy in the world, extremely talented, but when I worked with him as an agent, as soon as the match was over, I walked up to [Head of Talent Relations] John Laurinaitis and I said, ‘I will not be here next week.’ He said, ‘Is it that bad?’ I go, ‘I’m doing commentary only!’”

JBL made sure to clarify that he admires Sami both as a human and as a performer, and says he’s incredibly entertained by the former Intercontinental Champion; he just wasn’t cut out for a role that would see him answering many questions that he didn’t feel were necessary.

“To Sami’s credit, and I do mean this because I’m entertained by him to no end. He was always a career babyface, and he’d brag about being a career babyface. When he turned heel, he is one of the most entertaining heels I have ever seen. That stuff he was doing with Brock was beyond entertaining.”

On the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, Sami Zayn teamed with The Bloodline to take on the Street Profits and Riddle. Zayn took the loss for his team. Full results from the May 23rd episode of Raw can be found here.
