Jay White Pulled From G1 Climax Shows After Health Scare

Jay White

IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White will miss the next two events in the G1 Climax.

Jay White has been in fine form in the 32nd G1 Climax tournament, but his impressive run could be about to come to an end.

Despite currently being undefeated in the ring, illness has apparently struck down the star.

On August 9th New Japan Pro Wrestling released a statement revealing that White will not be appearing at the next two events. The release noted that White had been struck down by “heat stroke-like symptoms,” while testing negative for COVID-19.

“Jay White, who was scheduled to wrestle in Hiroshima Sun Plaza Hall this evening, has been affected by heat stroke-like symptoms and as a result will be removed from August 9 and 10 cards due to an abundance of caution. As an additional precautionary measure, White has undertaken COVID antigen testing, which has returned negative. We apologize to fans who were looking forward to seeing White wrestle, and appreciate your understanding.”

To date White has notched up four wins to top Group B with eight points, putting him on course for a spot in the semi-finals.

The star had been due to compete in an eight-man tag team match on August 9th, but the match was changed to a six man match. Meanwhile, he has been replaced in a planned six-man tag team match on August 10th.

At present, White is still advertised for the shows on August 13th, 14th and 16.
