Jay White appears to have wrestled his last match with New Japan-Pro Wrestling.
At The New Beginning in Osaka 2023, White lost a ‘Loser leaves Japan’ match to Hikuleo which set the ball rolling on his exit. He followed this up with another defeat, this time to Eddie Kingston at Battle In The Valley. This time the match came with the stipulation that the laser would be banished from NJPW altogether.
Ahead of that match, it was reported that Switchblade’s contract with NJPW was set to expire sometime between the show on February 18th and WrestleMania which begins on April 1st.
It has now been confirmed by Super J-Cast that White’s contract has now expired and he’s leaving the company.
Is Jay White Joining WWE?
Speculation about Jay White’s future has been rumbling for months after it was revealed that WWE holds an interest in signing the star. There were even rumours that he could appear at the Royal Rumble but the event came and went without Switchblade.
The most recent report on the situation noted that WWE remains interested in the star, while he is looking to move to the United States.
Despite WWE’s interest, there remains the possibility that White could join AEW. The star has a number of friends in the promotion and appeared on Dynamite back in February 2022. This led to him wrestling on Rampage and at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door that June. During this period he also wrestled numerous matches in IMPACT.
It has also been suggested that WWE is looking to land another major free agent other than White, although there is no confirmation on who this might be.
