Jake Roberts Wants To Wrestle Bray Wyatt In A “Stripper’s Pole Match” [Exclusive]

By Gary Cassidy. Published 2nd March 2021.
Bray Wyatt as The Fiend

After admitting he’s “getting better all the time,” Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts admits he’d love to step back in the ring – naming WWE Superstar Bray Wyatt and a bizarre stipulation for his dream match.

While speaking with Inside The Ropes‘ Lead Writer Gary Cassidy, addressed his current situation after withdrawing from an AEW appearance due to COPD – or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. However, Roberts noted that he’d stopped smoking and would be around for a while.

“You know, I’ve got some issues that I have to watch, but it’s getting better all the time because I did quit smoking. That’s really hard to do. I will be around for a long time, I have grandkids I want to hang out with now.”

The legendary Roberts would jokingly add that he has to stick around to make someone else miserable, before reiterating that his health has improved.

“I want to make somebody else miserable, so have fun. Yeah, I’m doing much better.”

With Tully Blanchard set to return to the ring, Cassidy also asked Roberts whether we could see more physicality from him in AEW, pending further improvements regarding his health.

“Probably. [He laughs]

“You know, even though I shouldn’t. But if my health starts to get to a point where I feel like it’s safe, I definitely would, because I still love it. it’s hard to give it up, man, it really is.”

When asked about his final match being a six-man tag team match, and whether he has one person in mind for his final encounter, Roberts initially said no – before naming Bray Wyatt.

“No, not really. I still want to do Bray Wyatt. I think we should have a Stripper’s Pole Match.”

For the most part, Roberts has made his run in AEW thus far impactful by using his words. With a tongue sharp as a knife and a venomous vocabulary, that more than renders Roberts’ contribution as meaningful but, with his last match thus far being a Six-Man Tag Team Match in 2018, it’s no surprise an in-ring return isn’t completely written off. However, Roberts said he’s just happy to be there in any capacity – and stated he’ll be there for as long as they want him to be.

“Well, they’re going to see me as long as they want me. I think that there’s a great opportunity for them to use my knowledge. If they don’t, it’s a mistake, but I think Cody Rhodes and the powers that be… Mr. Khan is a very wise man, he’s a great man, a good man, and I wish AEW nothing but the best, but I think they’re going to get some knowledge out of this old man and put it to use out there for some of the guys. It’s certainly my dream.

“As far as how long? As long as they want me, man.”
