Jake Roberts Slams New WWE Show: “It’s Foolish”

Jake Roberts chastises WWE for breaking a tradition the professional wrestling industry has valued since its genesis.

WWE’s new Netflix docuseries, “WWE: Unreal,” is set to release on July 29. The docuseries focuses on the writer’s room and how WWE shows are carefully crafted and curated, as the sports entertainment capital raises the curtain.

Jake Roberts Says ‘WWE: Unreal’ Will Do More Damage Than Good

On his podcast, “The Snake Pit,” WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts weighed in on the upcoming docuseries. According to the legendary wrestler, it is a foolish move as it will break kayfabe (the convention of presenting staged performances as genuine or authentic), something wrestlers worked hard to do back in the day.

But in recent years, the industry has evolved, with wrestlers taking a more relaxed approach towards kayfabe. This is especially the case for newer talents.

“Oh well, they’ve done everything else and made money with it. They might as well do that too. I think it’s foolish. I don’t think that product will ever warrant enough money being made for the damage that it’ll do,” Jake Roberts stated.

Roberts is an old-school wrestler who respects the once-practiced values of the business. Some active veterans of the industry still do their best to maintain kayfabe, like CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, for example.

Industry behemoth Roman Reigns also fits into this category, as he rarely shares personal interviews. Reigns, though, appears to be slowly and steadily branching out and thinking of life after retirement from wrestling. However, there are many young talents who build a fan following through social media platforms.
