Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts has opened up about the abilities of himself and Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat in wrestling, claiming that it’s difficult to name the best in-ring worker of all time, before saying The Road Warriors “just brutalised people” and that they actually were the opposite of great workers.
While speaking with Inside The Ropes‘ Lead Writer Gary Cassidy, Roberts would open up about how wrestling needs different guys for different reasons, pinpointing his legendary foe – Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat’s ability to sell.
“I don’t know. I don’t know. You need different guys for different reasons that are just phenomenal. Steamboat was known for his ability to sell, I was known for my ability to talk and get the most out of anything, because of my psychology. There’s a lot to be said for that fact.”
Roberts, though, would then look “on the other side of the fence” – pinpointing the Road Warriors as being “not great” due to how they “brutalised” people
“Then you start going on the other side of the fence and you’ve got the Road Warriors and guys like that just went in there and brutalised people, tossed people around – that’s not great wrestling. That’s not great wrestling.”
When pushed for an answer, Jake ‘The Snake’ would say he simply doesn’t know who the best in-ring worker is, but joked that it may very well be himself.
“Yeah, so I don’t know. I don’t know, but it could be me. I don’t know.”
