Jake Hager Was Threatened With 5 Million Dollar Lawsuit

Jake Hager

AEW star Jake Hager has revealed that he was threatened with a seven-figure lawsuit over his ‘Big Hurt’ nickname.

Jake Hager made his AEW debut on the first-ever episode of Dynamite in October 2019. During the show, Hager became a founding member of The Inner Circle alongside Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Santana and Ortiz. As the enforcer of the group, he quickly became known as ‘The Big Hurt’.

During a recent episode of Chris Jericho’s Talk Is Jericho podcast, Hager revealed how he caught the attention of another man who was called ‘The Big Hurt’ long before the AEW star even started wrestling, legendary Chicago White Sox First Baseman and Designated Hitter, Frank Thomas.

Hager explained that Thomas threatened to sue him for $5 million after he posted a photo of himself wearing a New York Rangers jersey – gifted to him by Jericho’s father – with ‘The Big Hurt’ emblazoned on the back.

“Your dad [Jericho’s dad] gave us the jerseys, New York Rangers, and it had ‘Big Hurt’ on the back of it. I posted a caption on [Instagram] with the caption ‘Big Hurt.’ Chris texted me and said, ‘I like this.’ I said, ‘Thanks, can you help me get it over?’

“Next thing you know, we’re getting sued by Frank Thomas for $5 million. It was a threat to sue for $5 million. We hadn’t done any merchandise, we had just talked about it. We even said, ‘Why don’t you come on Dynamite and wrestle me for it?'”

AEW’s resident wizard joked about the situation, pointing out that, unlike Jake Hager, Frank Thomas isn’t actually hurting anybody.

“You’re a baseball player, you’re not hurting anybody. Frank Thomas, go f*ck yourself. [laughs].”

At AEW Double Or Nothing, Jake Hager will join the rest of his current faction, the Jericho Appreciation Society, as they take on Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz, and the Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson in an Anarchy in the Arena match.
