Jade Cargill has heaped praise on former AEW star Cody Rhodes for going to bat for her when others didn’t.
TBS Champion Jade Cargill made her AEW debut in November 2020 when she interrupted a promo from Cody Rhodes, teasing the arrival of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. She later made her in-ring debut alongside O’Neal when they defeated Rhodes and Red Velvet on the March 3rd, 2021 episode of Dynamite.
Since those early steps in the ring, Cargill has gone from strength to strength and currently stands as the first ever TBS Champion. The star is also yet to taste defeat in singles action.
In recent weeks, now former AEW Vice President Cody Rhodes has left the company, but Cargill remains thankful for the time she spent working with the American Nightmare.
Speaking to CBS Sports, Cargill said that Rhodes always made an effort to make sure she was getting all of the help and support that she needed.
“It was a blessing. After my Shaq match, I feel like a lot of people kind of went off their ways. He was one of the people that checked up on me and my mental and to make sure I was OK and to help me understand the business,” Cargill said.
“Understand [that] the business found me. I didn’t find the business. I was just thrown into it and he understood that. There were other people, I’m not casting them out, but he was one of the people that texted me daily about my mental. In this sport, mental is very important. He’d check if I was getting what I needed. If I was getting the training that I needed, if I was able to speak and have the voice that I wanted.”
Continuing on, the TBS Champion said that Rhodes spoke up for others who maybe weren’t in a position to speak up for themselves. Furthermore, she described the former TNT Champion as a “phenomenal father and phenomenal person.”
“Cody is one of the people that’s for the people. For the people that can’t speak up. I’m the type of person that doesn’t complain. I just roll with the punches. I just go with the flow. That’s me and I like taking on challenges. He’s a great person. He’s a great individual. He was very much in my corner. He’s a great guy. He’s a phenomenal father. He stepped into new shoes. He’s a phenomenal father. He’s a phenomenal person in general, and he was one of the people that went to bat for me, for a lot of things.”
Jade Cargill will be back in action at AEW Revolution on March 6th, when she defends her TBS Championship against Tay Conti.
