Tony Khan has discussed the possibility of adding another hour to AEW Dynamite.
Since going on the air back in 2019, Dynamite has been presented as a 2-hour show with the occasional overrun added. However, due to Rampage and Collision previously moving nights and timeslots due to scheduling conflicts on TBS and TNT, AEW has presented 2 shows back to back with 3 hours of consecutive programming.
Having structured what is effectively a 3-hour show previously and with Dynamite being the show that draws in the most viewers each week, how likely is it that Dynamite could follow in the footsteps of WWE Raw and become a 3-hour show each week?
Speaking with Shakiel Mahjouri on SHAK Wrestling, Khan was asked if he is looking at adding another hour to Dynamite:
“That’s a really challenging question. It’s been interesting to do the three-hour block when it’s been Dynamite and Rampage. You wanna keep Dynamite as strong as possible. Look at the history of what’s happened with a two-hour wrestling show when that show has expanded to three hours.”
Currently, AEW presents 5 hours of programming each week with 2 hours dedicated to Dynamite and Collision and an additional hour for Rampage. When asked about adding more hours of content in general, Khan stated he would be happy to increase their weekly line-up:
“It’s interesting right now the most we get per hour for any of our TV shows is Dynamite. So in some ways you can say that would be a really lucrative opportunity. I think it’s a very interesting conversation to have about how many nights a week you allocate the programming. Is 5 hours the best? Should we do 6? I mean I definitely wanna do at least 5 now. I’ve tasted blood and I want more. So I could easily be sold on doing more than 5 hours of programming.”
Also in the interview, Tony Khan discussed an absent AEW star.
Tony Khan Makes Huge Donation
Back in April, Tony Khan was attacked by The Elite on Dynamite and was seen in a neck brace for subsequent media appearances. Now no longer requiring the neck brace, Tony Khan recently gifted the supportive device and made a massive donation to charity.
