John Cena’s recent appearance on SmackDown could have gone better according to a WWE Hall of Famer.
As seen on the season premiere episode of the blue brand, Cena opened the show and was quickly interrupted by Roman Reigns. The Tribal Chief believed that Cena was campaigning for another title match, aiming for title reign number 17. However, Cena revealed his true intentions which was to introduce the man who does want a title shot, LA Knight.
Knight stood toe to toe with Reigns and delivered an excellent promo, but fans may have been distracted by Cena’s facial expressions and hyping up Knight in the background of the shot.
Appearing on Busted Open Radio, Mark Henry was not a fan of Cena’s antics and recalled one time when he made a similar mistake:
“The number one thing was [Cena] drawing attention to himself,” Henry said. “You cannot [do that] when something is going on in the ring. I remember I did that with Ron Simmons one time. Once. Because he said, ‘Shut the f*** up!’ on TV. [He meant,] ‘Don’t move, don’t say anything. I’m working.’ And I drew attention away from him, and I wasn’t supposed to say nothing so I shouldn’t have said nothing.”
When Henry was asked why Cena acted the way he did, The World’s Strongest Man gave the following response:
“We know the obvious reason why — because he’s John Cena,” Henry continued. “All of the antics and the ‘Hey, look at me’ — it took away from the segment.”
